The use of multiple ways of understanding the text has been of interest both among Islamic commentators and Western hermeneutists since long ago. In this research, two different views of Allameh Tabatabai and Paul Ricoeur regarding the interpretation of the text are examined, to what extent and based on what bases do they have a point of understanding and from what extent do they have conflicting views. The current research is descriptive-analytical with a comparative approach. The findings of this research have shown that both scientists have significant commonalities in determining the meaning of the text, such as the central text and avoiding the interpretation by opinion and the difference between the concept and the example, and at the same time, there is a serious conflict in the interpretation of the text. The sentence of paying attention or not paying attention to the author's intention, the plurality of the meaning of the text and the validation of the interpretations, stand out in both views; This contrast shows the difference between the two discourses in the evolution of text interpretation among Islamic commentators and Western hermeneutics.
